Major energy research partners attend Sustainable Hydrogen Centre for Doctoral Training Stakeholder Event

Representatives from Shell, the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Imperial College were
among speakers at the Sustainable Hydrogen Centre for Doctoral Training (SusHy CDT) latest
Stakeholder Event.

Over 50 academics, commercial partners and SusHy DT PhD students attended the WES partner’s
event, at the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee Campus, on April 12 th .
The Event – themed: 'The potential for hydrogen in connection with the expansion of offshore
renewables' heard from two expert panels. Speakers included:
 Andrew Cunningham, Managing Director of GeoPura
 Aruna Chandrasekar, Energy Systems Researcher at the Electric Power Research
Institute (EPRI)
 Roger Cracknell, Technology Expert at Shell
 James Ferguson, Research Engineer in Hydrogen Systems at the ORE (Offshore Renewable
Energy) Catapult
 Leonore van Velzen, Hydrogen Project Manager at the European Marine Energy Centre
(EMEC)
 Dr Mahdi Sharifzadeh, of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at Imperial
College London

The SusHy CDT is a collaboration between the Universities of Nottingham, Loughborough,
Birmingham and Ulster; to find hydrogen-based solutions to deep decarbonisation of the energy
system. Objectives are to deliver high quality trans-disciplinary training, build initiative, deliver
“industry ready” doctorates, and co-create research ideas to undertake in partnership with
